I am an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist, with over 10 years’ experience in supporting mental health and well-being. Much of my experience has been working with people who have/are experiencing the impact of addiction, trauma, relational trauma and violence, such as domestic and/or sexual abuse. I am also experienced in working with the impact of nervous or anxious thinking/behaviours, bereavement/loss, stress, self-esteem & relationship issues. Understanding the impact that these experiences can have upon a person’s life has helped me develop a compassionate approach to my work. My client work has allowed me to witness the wisdom and strength that is held within each of us along the stages of our healing journey, and sparked my own curiosity around the role of courage and self-compassion in healing.
As an integrative therapist, I work with both person-centred and psychodynamic modalities through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP). I will work with you to understand how the thoughts, feelings and memories of your experiences connect to you in the present and how these ‘parts’ of your personality seek to protect you from deeper traumas or distress. Using mindful and compassionate curiosity to understand these connections, allows your inner strength (‘Self’, the inner power that we all possess) to shine through. It is within these growing moments of compassion and presence of ‘Self’ that healing truly begins. I am also trained in creative therapy, which has been helpful for my work with children & young people as I can use art, play and movement techniques in therapy to help process emotion.
